New Job

Just a quick personal announcement: I got the forms through this morning and start my training next month for my new job. Very exciting!

As of May 15th I will be joining the Metropolitan Police Force as one of their newest, keenest recruits.

Crime is a blight on working class neighbourhoods and the fear of crime is something that divides communities, keeping us at odds with one another.

I had to think long and hard about this decision but in the end I felt that if we don't have more socially conscious police officers in this country then the policing problems of the past will just keep repeating themselves over and again.

That is a relief.

Knowing that we've got you, Jim, watching over us as we're hanging the capitalists by the intestines of the bureaucrats, a revolutionary can feel comfortable in the knowledge that we've got a friendly, neighbourhood copper.

If it were true:

a) you probably can't run properly

b) you don't have the bottle to deal with violent knife-wielding people

c) you couldn't handle telling someone their loved one has died

d) you couldn't deal with mangled people in cars

I could go on.

Hi S.

There are lots of reasons that I wont be signing up for the boys in blue but one of them is that I'd rather not have to run anywhere - those days are over for me :)

However, on the other stuff I was a health worker for eight years specifically dealing with people with violent and challenging mental health problems and during my time I suspect I was attacked and in violent situations more often than your average police officer on a day to day basis.

I wouldn't go back but I've done my time dealing with violence, and coping with horrifying scenes - ta. Although only really had to break bad news on a few occasions.
