Thanks for the link Jim.

Lewisham Council are proposing to close 5 of the 12 libraries in the borough.

Will you blog something about what is happening?

Jim,

What is this about Carol Lucas giving out a Parliamentary pass to a lobbyist?

Mod: James is setting up Caroline's Parliamentary office (don't forget the -ine she got very sharp with a rightwinger on telly who couldn't get her name right!).

He's a party employee not a lobbyist, and until very recently was the national chair of the party. I know a few bits and bobs about his contract but it's probably not appropriate to go into someone else's employment details.

Harpy: if I hadn't got the meeting details completely wrong I would - doh!

Thanks Jim, understood, makes sense.

But surely he is a Lobbyist as well? That's what his company does.

I confess I don't know the ins and outs of his outside interests but the link on order-order doesn't seem to shout to me that he's currently a lobbyist.

He's basically works as a consultant and, because we've not had an MP before, we took him on (full time I believe) to set up the office and get the processes running, hiring etc. - we're advertising for his job at the mo as he's not intending to do that forever, it's more a favour to us lending us his parliamentary experience in the early stages.

Unless we're saying that no one who has ever had a job that could roughly be described as a 'lobbyist' (and I'm not convinced he ever was one, but I've not seen his CV) should ever be able to work in Parliament (and Caroline has never said that, she denounced the influence of those paid to lobby MPs on behalf of other organisations, which James is not doing)

I think this is a case of a right-winger with a track record of printing unsubstantiated stories having a dig at the most leftwing member of parliament for something that's actually fine. She's not beyond criticism, but this specific story is stretching credibility I think.

Fair enough Jim, I'd hate the Greens to be corrupted by sordid business deals at Westminster :)

PS: Has the new bike scheme in London ever struck you as anti-working class? Might be worthwhile you thinking about it....

I'm sure we'll have our own non-dom-gate, I'm just not sure this is it.

There are lots of problems with the new bike scheme although it's not particularly struck me as anti-working class. It seems to be bringing non-bike users into biking at a fairly cheap price - lots of bugs need ironing out and it does not extend far enough... why do you think it's a problem for working class people?
