Just a quick one in defense of the English language.
The BBC reports here, that due to the very latest techniques, profiling and the like, police from Scotland Yard (in their own time I hope) have produced the "the most accurate physical, geographical and psychological portrait of the Ripper ever put together"
Really? The most accurate?
Clearly someone at the BBC has been withholding vital evidence as the only way to know whether their profile is accurate or not is if you know who the killer was. Otherwise it's just comprehensive research which may or may not be helpful.
Metropolitan Police Commander John Grieve said, "This is further than anyone else has got..." unless of course they are completely wrong, "It would have been enough for coppers to get out and start knocking on doors... they would have got him." Comforting, very comforting - obviously taking as much due care and attention to evidence as he does with present day criminal investigations.
This is all sparked off by a show coming up on Channel Five which has gone by the obviously wrong title of 'Jack the Ripper: The First Serial Killer' as Vlad the Impaler obviously got his nick-name because he was partial to party sausages impaled on cocktail sticks. This sort of thing just didn't happen before 1888... or did it?
Yes. Yes it did. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for starters.
