Lewisham despatches

Yo,

you may have realised that blogging will be sporadic this week although I'll try to keep my hand in. However, it's touch and go as to whether I'll have a chance to blog about the Rome elections taking place at the moment, we'll see. Am down in Lewisham at the moment where, despite it being London, everyone is smiling, polite and chirpy. The sun shine does wonders for people I guess.

It's not exactly election fever though. With hardly a window poster to be seen I'm concerned that turnout is going to be low. Yes, low turnouts are good for the Greens but unfortunately they are also good for the BNP and frankly I'd rather see people politically engaged.

I wasted a portion of yesterday looking for a phone charger - I'll say this - go to the swanky shopping malls and you'll find the least helpful, least well stocked, most expensive assistance you could wish for, plus it will take ages. Go to a tiny local shop and you'll find a battered cardboard box with exactly what you need in it - and a friendly, honest person to sell it to you at a third of the price the chains are trying to rake in.

Two random observations: how is it possible to get lost going from Brighton to Lewisham soooo baaadly that you end up in Reading? Yes, Reading. Madness.

Secondly, if you're from the Independent I wont be answering any questions about "animal blood banks" - thanks!

PS I feel obliged to point out, having been asked twice now, no, I am not the "bewildered eco-blogger" mentioned in the Independent article - everyone knows I'm "haplass" not "bewildered" plus I wasn't there.
