Due to a surprise Lib-dem resignation there is a by election coming up in Trumpington on the 16th November and the Green Party has an excellent candidate.
Ceri Galloway has been active in Green politics throughout her adult life including having a concern for women's issues from the 1970s and the peace movement since the 1980s, including residency at Greenham Common. Well rooted in the community, Ceri is part of spearheading a number of local projects that enhance not only the local environment but also the quality of life in Trumptington.
She worked for ten years as a massage teacher and practitioner before working for the NHS for six years.
One of the things I must chat to her about once the election is done and dusted is her attempts at personal energy conservation and reliance on renewable "micro-generation". Probably the only home in Trumptington with a solar panel she and her partner are also about to fit a wind micro-generator to her home, the first of its kind in the city. As one of the greatest users of energy in this country is waste, due to the distances we force electricity to travel, locally produced and micro energy production is something we should be trying to promote on a really big scale.
I'm really pleased to be able to help Ceri in her campaign as the only candidate with a record of fighting privatisation, war and the destruction of the environment - and the only candidate with a real history of positive involvement in the ward I hope we can give our two main contenders (the Lib-Dems and Tories) a real run for their money.
At the end of the day there's only one result that will shake up the Cambridge establishment on November 16th - and that's a hefty vote for the Greens.
